COURSE OBJECTIVE
RIIWHS202D - This unit specifies competency required to enter and work in a confined space (enclosed or partially enclosed) for the purpose of carrying out work or inspections. This unit conforms to the requirements of the National and State Work Health & Safety Acts and Regulations.

MSMWHS217 - This unit of competency covers the skills and knowledge required to test the working atmosphere, using electronic testing apparatus, to find out if it is safe for proposed work. It applies to situations where an individual may be required to carry out gas testing of an atmosphere prior to entering a specific area or workplace. The competency requires the person to interpret readings and take actions based on the interpretations.

COURSE OUTCOME
This course requires participants to successfully complete 2 units of competency. Participants must successfully meet all criteria for both units to be deemed competent.
On successful completion of course participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the units of competency;
  • RIIWHS202D Enter and Work in Confined Spaces
  • MSMWHS217 Gas test atmosphere
and receive a wallet size Enter and Work in Confined Spaces/Gas Test Atmosphere.

PARTICIPANTS MUST
  • Wear fully enclosed, safety boots (excludes sports shoes), shirt and long pants/ trousers
  • Photo identification is a mandatory requirement (Australian Drivers Licence, Passport or Proof of Age card). ID must contain photo, signature and date of birth
  • Participants will need a level of language and literacy skills to enable them to meet the requirements of the course
  • A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required
